Star Lake 2012 National Western Blog #10

Star Lake '12 National Western Blog Report #10 (1/15/12)

It was a great day on Saturday in the final day of Hereford activities at the 2012National Western Stock Show.  The nice weather had the weekend crowds at the grounds had the barns and exhibit halls very busy.  The show ring was also very well packed as Hereford enthusiasts took in the National Female Show.

The Stumpf boys were rewarded with a Polled Junior Heifer Calf Division Championship with STAR Impassable Dream 80Y ET.  Olia Schoonover of Thud Ridge Farm received a Reserve Division banner for the Horned Junior Heifer Calf with STAR TRF Awe Ya Need 126Y ET. Our other three entries resulted in two first place finishes and a second.

At the end of the day the Horned Grand Champion female was shown by Haley Hudson; with Elizabeth Nessler standing as the Horned Reserve Grand Champion.  On the Polled side of things Blake Tucker won the Grand Champion Polled Female bronze and Bailey Buck had the Reserve Grand Champion Polled Female.

At the conclusion of the Female Grand Champion selection; all of the Hereford Grand Champions are brought back in and Supreme Champion is selected.  This year that Supreme Hereford Award was given to Ned & Jan Ward for their Polled Champion bull.

Star Lake was awarded the purple banner in the Get of Sire category with a Shock & Awe sired group.  We also claimed the champion banner for the Best Six Head and in culmination of our Denver activities we were named Premier Breeder and Premier Exhibitor as well.   Again, I must thank our outstanding ranch staff and crew for the many hours of hard work and dedication in making all of this possible.

I did not have the official results on the pen shows in The Yards on Friday when I did the last blog post.  Those Pen results were....Pen of 3 Bulls competition the Grand Champion was Colyer's; with the Reserve going to Sandhill.  In the Heifer Pens contest the Grand Champion was Grandview/CMR with the Reserve being awarded to Perks Ranch.

Remember that we are currently running the Stock Show Connection Sale as our monthly Internet sale on LiveAuctions.tv.  There are some of our latest and freshest genetics in this months offering, as well as two very nice heifers and a young bull calf.  Bidding continues 24/7 at your leisure and there will be a bid off Monday evening 1/16 at 7 pm (CDT).

We are running back and forth to the airport today and going through tear down in The Yards.  The cattle & crew head back to the ranch in preparation for Fort Worth.  I will be putting together some reflective recap blogs in the next couple of days.   Many have asked if these reports will continue from Ft Worth and yes we will be bringing a daily day to day report.  Until then - travel safe everyone!!!
