Star Lake 2012 Blog #12

Star Lake '12 Blog Report #12 (1/25/12)

Just a quick update today on the Star lake crew and cattle.  After a quick layover to get rested, healed of the Crud and laundry caught up it is time to get down to Fort Worth.  Debbie & I left Iowa yesterday with the two wrinkly dogs and got to the ranch by 7 pm.

What a difference in leaving a foot of snow and ice in Iowa to get to the balmy 55 degree temps of Oklahoma.  After our tradition of dinner (and margaritas) at Senior Salsa's it was a quick turn to be out the drive this morning headed to Fort Worth.  The cattle and crew left around 9:30 and we were right behind. It is about 5 hours from the Ranch to Fort Worth and we did run into rain near Oklahoma City.

While heading south on I-35 it was nice to see the billboards for the ALABAMA concert at the Winstar complex on February 11th.  It is great to see the guys from Fort Payne back entertaining on the stage.  The venue is a huge casino/resort that is always building and expanding.  Speaking from personal experience I know that I paid for a small part of that construction based on "donations" at the slots!  Winstar is located on the Oklahoma side of the Texas and Oklahoma state line.  Randy Owen and his wife Kelly are great Hereford cattle people that have fostered a love and passion for the breed in their daughter Randa.  We are honored that we have partnered with them on a number of select females and bulls through the years.

Heavy rain has been the top story here in North Texas with 5 to 7 inches recorded in the last 24 hours.  This is huge news and makes this January the second wettest in this areas history.  After the long struggle with the drought conditions that have had such an impact here it is great to see ponds, lakes, rivers and reservoirs filling back up.

I want to congratulate Jon Blin on the award received for the Star Lake website in the 2012 Best Of The Barns Competition.  While each of us has some "ideas" on things for the website....Jon is the guy that has made it happen day in and day out.  The updates, information and vision has been his and I am proud of the job he does.

So all of you know, EDJE Technologies is going to be broadcasting the Southwestern Exposition National Hereford Show LIVE from Fort Worth on January 30th.  Star Lake is proud to be one of the sponsors bringing you this coverage.  Jon will have a link on the Events portion of our website so you can check it out.

It was tabulated today that this 2012 Blog Series has thus far had over 7,700 page views!!!!  WOW - who would of thunk?!?  I thank all of you for taking the time out of your day to read these ramblings.  I will continue the blog from Fort Worth and will give an updated report of the cattle that made the trip and a bunch of pictures. Until then...
